November training!

New month, and not a ton of new things this month with the dogs!

Loot is still working on his strong fear of dogs barking and we're trying out some different medications.

Ravioli is 8 months old! And likely in another sensitive period as he learns he's ok in busy environments, and that it is actually ok to run to preplaced toys again! Ravi reminds me so much of Loot as a puppy and how he holds on to little things and just wants to cuddle when unsure!

And due to some major house stress with not having water in our house, we moved in to my parent's for 10 days! That meant little Helo got to have a lot more training sessions with me and his videos from our adventure will be rolling out next month.

New Blog!

And in case you missed it, I have a new blog post up for agility on rewards placed to help sends!

November Training Videos

Here are 8 videos from the past month's daily uploads of training. Just click on the picture to be taken to youtube. (And if you prefer the unedited versions, head to facebook or instagram!) I hope these videos give you some helpful tips to try or inspire you to train something new!

First Ravi is working on following my handing to get to the reward. Here he's doing a recall to my side before getting sent to the dish!

Loot is working on discriminating a send to a tunnel vs wrapping a wing.

Helo (my regular visiting puppy!) is working on pivoting into heel!

Ravi is at the anticipation stage of learning position changes! He has a decent offered foldback down and I've added a cue. He doesn't yet know the context clues in when he can offer and when he can wait.

Helo is working on an offered drop of his toy and starting to give me eye contact!

Ravioli is starting to have some energy for catching up to me on heelwork circles! And really this is a lot more than just foundations for pretty heelwork. Learning to catch up to me and move with focus is a huge help in agility even though he won't be quite so close to me!

Helo is working on foundations for teaching an independant backup to a target. He's at that "stretching" stage where he's learning to keep commitment to the target! And bonus that it also is a great exercise for solid agility contacts!

And Ginny is working on her threadle wraps using a toy by the wing and a landing pole. I've done a bit with a sit platform too and I think I'll need to go back to that to get her to adjust her takeoff. But it's better than it was!

I wrote a new blog bost! This post on why I don't place the reward on the dog's line (at the foundation level). Without a foundation in knowing how to leave the reward to get the reward, I see so many dogs running blindly to it as the handler attempts to work sends. This results in dogs continually being called off the reward when they invetibly skip obstacles on the way there. People trying to block and guard the reward as they try to convince the dog to go back and try again. A lot of...

Loot got to do one trial this month. A single ring small CDSP trial. He was heavily managed to be in the building only right before his turns so that the odds of having a dog bark while he was there was lowered. And we lucked out. No barking. He was happy to go in the ring and while his precision wasn't there, he kept his attitude! New CDX-C title! Happy fall! Raviloi is now a full teenager and the most "teenagery" I've had with independence! Still a very easy puppy, but he's lost a bit of the toy skills we had build in well, actually bringing the toy back to me! And a bit further range from me on hiking, alhtough still a nice response to being called back. Loot is still working through sound sensitivity and I'm bubble wrapping him with management when he goes to class. I was hoping for an agility trial in October but I don't think that...
