Take a poll! And May video wrap ups

Hello all! I am considering taking some of my posts I write for my Ring Confidence group and also sending them out in an email to this list.
The algorithm very much limits who it actually shows group posts too, even if you have notifications turned on. And I don't know about any of you, but I find myself continually trying hard to stay away from social media.

But this would also mean that instead of only getting 1-2 emails a month from me, you would be getting 4-6. This assumes of course, that I actually stay on top of things and plan out stuff to write!

And for a quick May update, Loot ran in another trial! This time, a pretty big one, as it was the Midwest Classic for UKI. I am absolutely thrilled with how he responded to the environment! He even medaled in Pentathlon!

And you may have noticed a big golden in a few videos I posted this past month. We welcomed Apollo into our house for an evaluation stay as a service dog in training for a local organization. So far, he is doing great! I expect a lot more videos this next month!

Why I stopped Guarding the Reward

Don't miss my blog post on how I try to handle training "impulse control" and focus around rewards and distractions!

Current posts for thought

Speaking of the Ring Confidence Group, here are a few posts from this last month.

Walking the line of building up their confidence and making sure things are easy and then gradually adding pressure to prepare them for trials

May Training Videos

Here are X videos from the past month's daily uploads of training. Just click on the picture to be taken to youtube. (And if you prefer the non-music versions, head to facebook or instagram!) I hope these videos give you some helpful tips to try or inspire you to train something new!

Ginny has some fun reviewing her ability to do a tucked sit while also doing a chin rest. I think this is an important foundation for training close fronts, both with a dumbbell and without.

Loot and Ginny have been working on using a sit mat for their jump training, as I try to work on Loot taking off in a better position for his slices and Ginny actually collecting on her wraps. I am auditing Laurren Bastian's program!

I've continued to play around with Ginny doing a pop stand on recall. It's currently more of a fly forward, 6 feet in the air, but it is quite fun!

I brushed up some work on panic halt training with Loot to mimic what I might do in an actual ring 😂

Freya did a little bit of training, and I focused on trying to teach her to sit after a cone send, such as with the rally sign.

Ravi has been off and on with his ability to train just last month, dealing with his food issues as well as some teenage sensitivity and weirdness around his toy. But he did have a blast going to a Liz Randall seminar and actually doing a little bit of sequencing!

video preview

Ravi is also working on his teeter foundations. I'm going to be doing a 4 on this time, and I'm following Liz Randall's program.

Make sure you are doing a true left pivot in your rally training. The dog should have to backup around you!

And finally, one of Apollo's first lessons with me, or at least his first time training outside with me. This is looking at teaching him a go sniff cue and how to keep focus on me for a few treats before I release him again.

Current June Classes

Class is starting! Make sure to sign up so you don't miss out!

Learn how to teach the dog to leave the reward to get the reward! Dog sport prep for training skills (like sends!) and getting ready to trial with the reward at a distance.

Get ready for the fun part of obedience! These skills can be started long before you perfect novice obedience! We break it down extensively, maybe a little bit too much with 9 lectures just on marking skills, 5 lectures just on the "sit" part of the go out, and a ton more!

Follow me on the social media platform of your choice to try and catch all my daily training videos. I hope they inspire you to try something fun with your dog! And join my free facebook group on building ring confidence for dog sports!

Ginny went to the Midwest Cup this June. This is a hard trial for her, as it's loud in multiple rings, but she truly did quite well and even managed to sneak on the podium in the biathlon! Ravioli's still going through diet changes to try and help him feel ok. It makes training pretty darn limited as he often doesn't feel up to it, even using toys. I made this post on Facebook for a general update And Loot will be doing a local agility trial this weekend. His first time back trialing at this...

Thank you all who said you were ok with me cross posting the Ring Confidence facebook post group posts here! Magnet Hand Have you taught your dog to keep their nose glued to the food, even when you're moving? I talked about this in a recent post on helping our dogs not sniff, and I thought I'd make it into its own post. Magnet hand! For some dogs, this practically comes pre-installed, and you don't have to do much for the actual teaching of it. And for other dogs, you really have to work hard...

I wrote a new blog bost! This post on why I no longer try and guard the reward or distractions from my dog. They get the free cookie if I mess up! It forces me to split my training better and actually teach them what I want them to do. And in turn, I found that the dogs were getting less frustrated, more confident, and actually being successful on the first attempt versus needing to test to see if they can have it first. Click to Read! Thanks everyone! And now how to find my training: Free...
