Freya is working on so many things right now I thought I'd give her a full recap just for her! (Plus I slighted her on my December training video email by not including her!) This is for you Freya fans! I have to say that I'm so proud of how well she's not just eager to train but actually sticking with it more when things are a bit tough. We still have sessions where she just can't do anything but rub, but mostly she's excited to go and gets mad when I don't do an evening session! Recent Videos!Footstall! I was inspired by another trainer to teach a footstall! She was mad when I ran out of treats in this session! (Spoiler alert: We have it now! Just haven't finished uploading the video to my tiktok feed!) Freya is learning how to pivot clockwise! I want to teach her heeling on the right side once she knows how to pivot in this direction. This foundation is important for your fronts too! And a progress update on teaching her to get into my side! I'm having so much fun with Freya learning rally type of heeling! I haven't yet mixed in position changes and stays, but this type of doodle heeling is fun! We're also working on that skill of backing up in heel! Freya knows how to backup when facing me, to her target at least. And she's done a tiny bit of backing up in heel as we were working on her pivoting skills. But the consistency of it just isn't there. Plus she's super confused if there's no target! Fancy Malinois, or fluffy kitty? So hard to tell! New month, and not a ton of new things this month with the dogs! Loot is still working on his strong fear of dogs barking and we're trying out some different medications. Ravioli is 8 months old! And likely in another sensitive period as he learns he's ok in busy environments, and that it is actually ok to run to preplaced toys again! Ravi reminds me so much of Loot as a puppy and how he holds on to little things and just wants to cuddle when unsure! And due to some major house stress with...
I wrote a new blog bost! This post on why I don't place the reward on the dog's line (at the foundation level). Without a foundation in knowing how to leave the reward to get the reward, I see so many dogs running blindly to it as the handler attempts to work sends. This results in dogs continually being called off the reward when they invetibly skip obstacles on the way there. People trying to block and guard the reward as they try to convince the dog to go back and try again. A lot of...
Loot got to do one trial this month. A single ring small CDSP trial. He was heavily managed to be in the building only right before his turns so that the odds of having a dog bark while he was there was lowered. And we lucked out. No barking. He was happy to go in the ring and while his precision wasn't there, he kept his attitude! New CDX-C title!
