May Videos

It's June! And I am on my way right now to pick up a fluffy package!

In the meantime, here are some training videos from the month of May.

May Training Videos

Here are 7 videos from the past month's daily uploads of training. Just click on the picture to be taken to youtube. (And if you prefer the music free versions, head to facebook or instagram!) I hope these videos give you some helpful tips to try or inspire you to train something new!

Vaughn stars in a lot because there is so much visible progress in the early stages of things!

Retrieve training was his beggest skill challenge as he was incredibly chompy, pawy, and only had this "play" retrieve with no concept of being asked to be gentle! Here are 2 videos looking at his progress.

I went to a bucket to get more distance from my hand but prevent the paw! I first worked with him a little on nose in bucket so he wasn't thinking about stepping on it.

Then I taught actually aiming to my hand and progressed to working the hold part! So proud of how well he got the no mouthing part!

Freya Cat wants to show off her rally heelwork skills an some attempts at sidestepping in front and heel

Loot is working on his marking the jump skill for agility. I'm happy with how he's doing when I'm a small distance behind him, and here I'm adding a "distraction" jump to it! Then I do some lateral sends.

Want to teach your dog to tuck under a chair as a fun trick for patio adventures? Vaughn had me break it down and teach every single step!

Working with rewards at a distance?! Here are some videos on early stages! And check out my June class this month for really advancing this skill!

Here Vaughn is on stage 2 of the zen bowl work. He knows the word for the dish, understands that sometimes when my mouth opens it's going to cue a reward from my hand, not the dish. And now he's working on doing it with motion!

Here Ginny shows an advanced skill of sending away from the dish to a cone. This video demos how I make sure I have connection before cuing the dish, even in this movement exercise. I don't want the dog ignoring my handling and running to the dish just because it's there!

And here Ginny is working on threadles when I'm further back. To do this I'm having the toy reward placed on her landing line, but that also means she has to move past the toy in order to get the toy! We make a few errors here, but never going to the toy without a cue! Same Bye Bye Cookie foundations work with toys!

June Class: Bye Bye Cookies

Class starts today, June 1st! Don't forget to get it now so you can dive into this important topic!

Are you frustrated? Feeling like you’ve put a lot of time and effort into training the skills your dog needs to be successful, but training still feels very transactional and you're struggling to make it into the ring and keep your dog's focus when the food is gone.

In this class, we will help your dog develop the ability to work and focus even when there is no reward on your body. We will build up your dog's ability to work no matter where the reward is located and without any type of lid to prevent stealing!

Follow me on the social media platform of your choice to try and catch all my daily training videos. I hope they inspire you to try something fun with your dog! And join my free facebook group on building ring confidence for dog sports!

How Does the Dog Know if They're Wrong? I wrote a blog! This one is on how does the dog know they're wrong?I reward error a ton in my training. I often refer to them as Pity Cookies! My priority is that the dog stays in the game and wants to keep trying. Sometimes after an error I need to interrupt if it's part of a chain. But I try to make it playful and don't really care if the dog knows if they're wrong or not! I am not aiming for errorless and I don't panic when they happen. I keep...

Yes a new puppy!! Ravioli, or Ravi for short, is a sighthound called a Windsprite. Why a windsprite? I had been crushing on Koolies, and some herding dog mixes but realized that it wasn't the right time in my family's life to add more oomph to our house. My household is "a lot" right now with the kids, and Loot already struggles with it at the intense times. And even a playful lab or golden is a bit too much. Vaughn was a great foster and wasn't bothered at all by the kids, but he was also...

I am splitting my monthly email in 2 this month because there is just so much! This email will be an update on the household, next one will have my normal monthly videos. Goodbye Vaughn! We said goodbye to Vaughn this week. We had Vaughn for just over 2 months to evaluate his temperament as a service dog and then put some skills on him! And he made it easy for me as with a little bit of patience and knowing how to break things down, he blossomed. Not the fastest learner at the start, but very...
